Horror Trailer: Trailer Music and Sounds

This is all the music and sound effects that I used to create my horror trailer. In total I used around 15 different sound effects and music. I done a bit of research first to what type of music other horror trailers used and whether the music lasted throughout the whole trailer or not. We specifically researched 'Christmas Horror Trailers' as this is what our trailer was most like. We looked at 'A Christmas Horror Story' in particular, this was one of our inspirations where we used the song 'it's not Christmas by Rachel Williams'. This was our opening song. I also listened out for background noises to which I then researched on YouTube some sound effects where I then applied this to the trailer. I also added in humming noises and creepy child giggles in the background as it made the film seem much more scarier and added to the level of creepiness. One song that made the trailer seem very creepy was the song 'Carol of the bells', this was purposely added to creep out the audience to which when showing the trailer to them showed to have worked.

Horror Trailer: Use of mise-en-scene

For our trailer we  focused on on mise-en-scene a lot as we wanted to make sure that we had a variety of different locations as we didn't want to base it all in one place. By having multiple locations it allowed our trailer to look more realistic and a lot more appealing to look at.
For our trailer the different types of locations we used were 2 different houses, a grave yard, the streets, a garden and in school.
Collectively this made out trailer stand out a bit more as it was based on many different locations.

Horror Trailer Reactions

This is some audience research I did where I got the reactions of my target audience to some horror trailers that I had picked. From doing this I have gathered that a lot of teens nowadays compared to many years ago find horrors funny more than they do scary as from watching these trailers they seemed to find some jump scares and injuries funny.

Group Prelim: Shooting Schedule

This is a schedule of our shooting times, it shows when are where we filmed on what days and also showing how long it took us to film. Here it shows what equipment and props we used, which actually wasn't a lot at all. This was a very simple clip to film and create and did not take us that long at all.

Group Prelim: Storyboard

This is a storyboard that we created, it helped us to film our horror clip as it broke it down for us making it a lot more easy to see what we had to film and how to film it, for example the first box says that the camera should zoom in and so when when film we know that for that scene we have to zoom in.

Group Prelim: Reasons for choosing the horror clip

This is the horror clip that we chose as a group. Its a horror clip from the film 'The Conjuring', specifically looking at the Annabelle doll scene. We decided to chose this clip because it had a large variety of camera angels which was good as it gave us a challenge because we wasn't filming from just one angle we had to constantly move places to get the right shots in.
Also we chose this clip because it had many complex horror elements such as the supernatural which we found was an easy task as the supernatural is the unseen so therefore we were able to re create the scene with close attention to detail as a lot of the scare elements in this clip were behind closed doors, such as the banging and the appearing of the doll.

The clip that we chose was a clip relatively easy to film due to the time limit that we had to do it in, which was 6 days baring in mind that half of the people in our group had out of school commitments such as work which gave us a more short amount of time to prepare and film however we still managed to work around these and film. We chose a clip that we knew we could get easy access to the location which in this case was Sophia's house.
Sophia's house specifically was chosen because the scene actually happened to fit perfectly with her house layout of the rooms and the corridor. Furthermore Sophia's house was the best place for the group to film as it was free and near by to us all for us to easily go to record. Also the props that were used were not difficult to get as all we needed to find/buy was a the Annabelle doll which although we did not get the exact replica we got something similar.

Another reason why we chose this clip was because when we saw it, it was so intense and made us tense and also due to the fact it was based on one location. However due to the little time we were given we was not able to get the replica of the clip perfectly but for next time we know that we need to make sure when we film we use our time given wisely.

Research: Villians in horror

I think that I would use a 'monster' in my film because I feel as though it give the auidence something to fear and also gives a great but also cassic storyline showing that theres the 'good guyd' and the 'bad guys'.

Welcome to my blog for A2 media studies!
This is my blog where I will be keeping a portfolio of all my work and ideas along the way to creating my final products which are a horror trailer, poster and magazine front cover.

Response to breif

Image result for scream movieWhat is the first horror film you remember seeing and how did it affect you?
I don't remember the first horror film that I watched however I do feel like it was most probably scream. I remember that after watching Scream I was terrified of those scream masks and anyone who dressed up in it freaked me out and i would hide, so it left me almost traumatized.

What are your feelings and experiences of the horror genre since then?
I used to not like horror films at all and I refused to watch them because I used to get so scared and from watching scream it made me hate it even more but eventually I started to watch more horror films as I got older and I love it its one of my favorite genres to  watch because I like to get scared.

What do you find frightening and why?
I find gory stuff frightening anything that involves seeing like a leg get chopped off or anything to do with seeing organs or any bodily harm freaks me out. I also hate seeing someone getting stabbed or like axed cause the thought of a sharp object going through a persons body makes me feel sick and scares me cause I imagine it happening to me. Other than that I find most things funny like I laugh so much at killer clowns.

What kind of horror posters/trailers interest you?
The kind of horror posters that interest me are usually ones that stand out for example like a massive scary imagine on the front. If there is any images of clowns on a poster that usually grabs my attention straight away. I feel like this is because the makeup is so good that its actually quite fascinating and it just looks really cool. With the horror trailers I find that anything that is going to make me jump and put of edge interests me. I also like seeing quick action, for example if something is chasing someone or people are running away. The colours and graphics and also setting and lighting interest me in trailers. This is because I don't really like to watch an all dark film and so if I see that their is some bright lighting I grabs my attention immediately.

The poster above is an example of what would catch my attention, as you can see there is a enlarged image on the front and this automatically stands out for me but also the colour that are used and how the angle of gaze is straight at the audience.
here is also an example of a horror trailer from the move 'Hush'. the main character of the film is death and cannot speak and is with this film in particular sound plays a very important part as t tells the story without using much dialogue.

What kind of poster/trailer do you think you might create?
I hope to base my trailer and poster around a clown because I honestly love clowns but this will come down to what my group also decides. I feel like when you create something you love you automatically do better. However I feel like ill create something that quite bold and colorful because in my opinion this is the thing that will most likely grab my attention. But it would be a creepy but colourful look.

What are you most excited about exploring/creating this year?
I am most excited about the production work of making the horror trailer. So like going out to film the scenes and them because Its quite fun and exciting putting it altogether in premier and watching it come together also excites me because I like to see how all the work that was done and put into doing it finally comes together.
